Up Cannabis Inc., a company backed by legendary Canadian rockers The Tragically Hip, is opening an “Experiential Hub” in the band’s hometown of Kingston, Ontario. It will be located inside of a forthcoming Spiritleaf retail centre.
This news coincides with Inner Spirit Holdings Ltd.’s announcement today that its subsidiary, Spirit Leaf Inc., has “entered into an agreement” with one of the first 25 retail cannabis lottery winners of Ontario, as selected by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). This winner has filed an application to open a Spiritleaf retail cannabis shop on Princess Street in Kingston. The parties involved hope to have the venue open by April 1, 2019.
“The retail agreement entered into with the Ontario retail lottery winner allows for the opening of a Spiritleaf store through a brand licence and consulting arrangement with SLI,” read a press release issued by Spirit Holdings Ltd. “SLI is collaborating with the lottery winner to build out the store location, license its brand and operating standards, and provide expert product training.”
The Up Cannabis Experiential Hub will have a “store-within-a-store” setup and offer education about cannabis, all the while showcasing Spiritleaf’s and Up Cannabis’ “love of music and various community and charitable endeavours.”

Recently, Newstrike Brands Ltd. and Inner Spirit Holdings Ltd. entered into an “investment agreement and strategic alliance agreement” that saw the companies acquire equity interests in one another. What’s more, this arrangement sees both parties join forces in the retail distribution of Up Cannabis products, as well the development of Experiential Hubs within Spiritleaf stores.
